Assignment #2: The Documentary

In this assignment, SMASH Video producers created short documentaries covering an event or an aspect of their lives. The point is to tell a story about something that is happening around them; with their own camera and their own voice.

Assignment #2 Video

July 21st, 2008

I am very proud of this project because is the first time that I have put one of my poems into a piece of work for the program and really anything in general. I feel that this video has the capability to open the eyes of many people who still have not been exposed to a real strong black woman.

Assignment #2: my Sundays

July 13th, 2008

This assignment is, quite possibly, the hardest and most frustrating project I have yet experienced in either of my two summers of SMASH Tech classes. Getting the footage was not difficult, but piecing together was frustrating. I had a lot of trouble getting the edits to work the way I wanted them to work, as well as some serious file malfunctions that made it really difficult for me to stay at all motivated to finish this assignment.

My project includes the basics of my Sundays during the SMASH session and an overview of what my day focuses on.

YAY assignment DONE!!!!!!!!

July 11th, 2008

Hello everyone,
As you may already k ow for my assignment 2 I decided to do it on how there is still a KID inside of us. I interview SMASH scholars and I asked them questions for example, if they believed that there was still a kid inside of us. All the people that I asked told me that there was and that it didn’t matter how old there were there was still going to be a kid inside of them no matter what. In this video I also have a part where I have my family playing around and preparing for a water fight. YAY!!!!!!! well I hope that you guys enjoy the clip.

Take the Initiative to Lead – Assignment 2

July 11th, 2008

I wanted to do a segment on leadership because I think that leadership in one’s life is very important whether one experiences it or is the leader. After having several years of experience as a leader, I’ve come to realize that anyone can be a leader and this video was made in hopes of that.

Assignment #2-Global Warming

July 11th, 2008

I created this video with one simple purpose and that is to inform the general public about global warming. I know that there are many contradictions and some people say that global warming is just a cyclical process the planet goes every couple of a million years and some say that this process is being sped up by our daily human activities. I in particular am not sure who to believe, but all I know is  that we are doing something wrong by polluting our planet. This video is not meant to change anyones perspective of global warming but I am just giving you my view point in this topic. I hope that you will enjoy this video.

SMASH Elections – Documentary

July 11th, 2008

This is a documentary that begins by introducing people to the SMASH Academy and then focusing on the SMASH Elections. From there, SMASH scholars give their thoughts about this year’s elections compared to the previous years and whether they believe it is more effective to have a committee of people willing to be in this student council rather than a select few who are voted in.

Assignment #2- Creativity Diversity

July 11th, 2008

In this HMB Production, we will take a look into the diverse side of Creativity, specifically document three individuals affiliated with SMASH and how their own paths of creativity do not correlate to others, as everyone should express themselves in a relaxed manner that appeals to them, and not be pressure to express creativity in a specific way.

Thank you for watching

At the Dining Commons

July 10th, 2008

For my second assignment, i traveled over the bridge to the Foothill Dining Commons where i was able to see and ask about the food being served there. The food there, while it was not “homemade”, still contained valuable nutrients necessary for daily life. The dining commons provided many choices of foods to choose from, including a salad bar and a sandwich bar.

The purpose of this assignment was to capture the true thoughts of SMASH scholars and staff about the food. The hardest part of this assignment was actually figuring out how to get started. After planning out what i have to film and who i have to interview, it was easy to film and edit the clips.

Karina Diaz Documentary

July 10th, 2008

I chose to do my presentation on Fourth of july because it seemed appropriate for the occasion because I was filming over fourth of july weekend.

Also, I know that most people’s idea of what is celebrated on the fourth of july is false. It is said that we celebrate this day in July beasue that was when we gained independence from Great Britain, but that is not so. Creating this documentary I am able to inform others while providing a slightly humorous way to do so.

outline

July 7th, 2008

For assignment 2 I plan to try to find out what it means and takes to be a scholar. I will talk about what a traditional idea of a scholar is and what scholars are now. The video will include interviews of scholars, teachers, and any one else that spends a lot of time around scholars. Hopefully by the end of the video I will have discovered what a scholar is and maybe even how to turn some one into a scholar.

Assignment 2- Tree Sitters!

July 3rd, 2008

Hey! It’s Jose. So for this assignment, I have to do some sort of documentary. After struggling to find a good subject, my RA Ashley finally suggested I do something about the tree sitters here in Berkeley. I personally know nothing about the situation, so for this documentary I will see how informed the rest of my SMASH peers are. Little do they know, they will be teaching me too as I go along. So lets see how up to date these SMASHers are on their current events!

Assignment II – Outline

July 2nd, 2008

Subject: SMASH Elections

For my video, I will have interviews of people who ran and those who have not and what they think about the process of the SMASH elections. As well, I will have still and panning shots of the actual election. My main focus will be the good and the bad about the SMASH elections and possibly some solutions that could help fix the bad stuff, if any.
