Shena Rapinan

Hi everyone! My name is Shena Rapinan and I'm currently a third year at SMASH Academy. I currently go to ACCEL Middle College in San Jose. I'm an upcoming junior. :) I'm super excited to be almost done with high school. But as for the present, being a third year at SMASH doesn't feel any different. The medium are the changes themselves. There has been many changes with SMASH system. Nonetheless, I enjoy being here -- especially in this class. Advance Tech is such a laid back class! I'm so glad to be a part of it.

PSA: High School Drop Out Rate

January 29th, 2009

PSA Assignment:
High School Drop Out Rate.

My PSA conveys the message that every year, the number of high school drop out increase. More specifically, last year it was 20% in the U.S. alone. In order to prevent the number from increasing, I urge parents to support their child and educate them that live is better when they are educated.

This PSA consists of 8 people (including me). At first, I had Vivian showed the percentage of high school drop outs. Then, I had images of students (Jose, Monica, Kathy, Diana, Lavonda, Henri, and Noel) portraying themselves as teenagers who do not enjoy school.

This message is definitely formated in a skit way. In the beginning, I showed images which acted like evidence that these students would most likely drop out of high school. Then, I had a monologue which directly targets parents to help their kids — to help the students. In the end, I captured the students smiling. I decided to do this because i wanted to metaphorically show that the students have been helped.

The focus of my PSA was the ending. It portrayed the positive effects of parents helping the students out. Having the students smiled and showing their good side is definitely enjoyable to see. It also provokes the emotion to help others out.

As said earlier, my message was directed to parents. However, at the same time, it is directed to students. There are many reasons why high school students drop out (it is not only parents who don’t support them). Some reasons why high school students drop out can vary from peer pressure to the media. And hence, at the end of the PSA I put: “Live Above The Influence. Live Above The Media.”

After viewers watch this video, I truly want to them to help others. Help others to succeed because they’ll learn from them too. A longer effect of helping others (besides yourself) will be the advancement of the future.

At last, here is the video. Enjoy!

Not so silent, or are we?

July 10th, 2008

For assignment three, I definitely want to work on a silent film. I’m not exactly sure about what I want it to be. However, I’m definitely striving for it to be short, concise, and straight to the point!

—- EDIT

I’m planning my silent film to be about my typical day at SMASH.

—- EDIT

So, I completely have a new idea for my silent film. Hope you guys enjoy. It’s a thriller. =)

Basically, it’s about Jose (main character) who loses his best friend due to some incident. His best friend (me) comes to haunt him at night because he doesn’t wear their friendship bracelet anymore. At the end, the characters have a confrontation. I gave him the bracelet and he rests again.
