Alright so my name's Carlos, 17 years old. I was born and raised in Mexico, and came to the US at the age of ten. I have always had a burning passion for everything related to technology. I have gained some really good skills with photo manipulation and flash presentations and i hope to learn a lot from this class about video and video editing. One of my philosophies in life is that there's no limit to how much we can learn, so why not keep learning?

PSA MMFFAA

July 24th, 2008

Message — My PSA has the message of unity. I want people to know that they are not alone and that they need to advocate for each other, because together great things can be accomplished.

Messengers — My PSA is direted at SMASH so i thought it would be more effective if alot of people participated in delivering that message to the rest of the community. Sometimes one person can seem alone and not credible, but when multiple people send the same message it makes a much greater impact.

Format — My PSA delivers the message of unity so i thought the best way to deliver it was with a lot of people all contributing to that central theme.  There’s a lot of people, each saying a couple words or a phrase so that people realize that great things are done with the help of others.

Focus — Again my focus and message are one and the same: to let people know that they have others they can rely on, that they don’t stand alone, and that they can overcome injustices together. SMASH is more tha just a “rigrous academic program”, it is a family.

Audience — Again, my audience is SMASH so i filmed all the tiny little clips at the foothill dorms so that the scholars realize that they do have each other.

Action — What i ask of the audience is not an immediate action; all i ask is that they don’t go throughout life thinking they’re alone, because they’re not. I want them to realize that they have people who will stand by them and help them overcome life’s obstacles.

Assignment 3

July 21st, 2008

So, Trevor and Simon, I’m not sure if you are aware of everything that has happened this weekend, but I had to re-do most of my video and i did not have much time to work on any work from any of my classes. I hope you will understand, just as i understand that my work is late and will accept any consequence you deem necessary without complaint.

Here’s my video:

Assignment 3 update

July 15th, 2008

So I decided to change the topic of my 3rd assgnment. Because I could not get a soccerbal, and because my previous idea would’ve produced a very short film, I decided to do a compare and contrast situation between a student who’s late to class and a student who is early to show the importance of attending class on time.

Assignment 3 idea: Basic Soccer

July 10th, 2008

When I was first hit with the Silent Movie assignment, I was very confused and lost, But after watching Trevor’s video on how to make a movie, i realized i wanted to do the same: an instructional video that teaches its viewers how to do something.

Here I reached another red light, where I had to decide what to instruct people on. I brainstorm a lot of ideas such as basic volleyball, checkers, dominoes, or other fun games. At the end i realized that a good project involves a subject that the productor is passionate about. This made me conclude that in order to do my best project, I wished to show people some basic skills in soccer.

I decided that I would be the actor because the topic is something that i am very passionate about. I already have it all set up to do it over the weekend; probably sunday morning, with the help of my brothers, I may obtain the actual footage and have a draft of the whole video on Tuesday that i may then revise and improve.

Hope to hear some constructive criticism and some advice. It be greatly appreciated. Thanks ya’ll.

Assignment 2 outline

July 3rd, 2008

So i decided that for my second assignment i would cappture the some of the many events that we have to enjoy ourselves and get a break from the work.

More specifically i am gonna film soccer in the morning and volleyball in the afternoon and how it offers us a way to break lose for a short period of time so that we can go back to or responsabilities fresh.

Also, i will explain how such activities help us socialize and “break the ice”  with the new scholars so that we can form a much better unified family.

Assignment 1

July 1st, 2008

What’s up, ya’ll?!  So this is my video and i hope you enjoy it!!!

PS I wrote some things at the end so let me know what you think.

Since this is my first time doing video editing, I’m quite proud of what I achieved. Setting up the video was rather easy because i just chose a random order in which to place the “actors” and kept that same order for each question thereafter. I didn’t like the automatic transitions that were there, so i juggled with the other available transitions to make my video look more professional and sophisticated, i think. I also thought a simple “The End” at the end of the video was  bit overrated, so i decided to add a few words at the end with some emotional music to set the sad good bye-ish mood. I also remembered how every professonal movie has the credits at the very end and i decided to mimic them.
