Hey! My name is Vivian Onuoha and this is my third, but sadly last year of SMASH. I currently go to Santa Teresa High School in San Jose. This year is going to be so much fun, especially since I'm in Tech 2 with my favorite teachers, Simon and Trevor.( Hey Trevor, I hope that you don't get jealous that I said Simon's name first). Anyway, Tech 2 has changed and now the whole class is learning how to edit videos. The class will experiment with different styles of shots, allowing us to play with our creativity in the form of a media outlet.

PSA: Rise Above the Statistics

July 25th, 2008

For my PSA, the last video project for the class, I decided to do it on the percentage of minority groups that graduated with a four years bachelors degree or higher and work.  For this last tech project, a group of people decided to join in my project. It wasn’t easy working in a group of ten people. It was hard trying to find how everyone could have a part in the PSA. I really appreciated how everyone want to be involved and pitch their own ideas and any form of help that they could give from providing the music to just being featured  in the film .

This particular PSA was created to reflect the percentage of Asian Americans, African Americans, Latinos/ Hispanics, and Native Americans that enter the work force with a bachelors degree or higher. The purpose of this PSA is to raise the awareness about the amount of minorities that have any sort of higher education in today’s job market. The numbers are pretty surprising especially for the fact that the “minority” groups represented in this PSA are the ” majority” of this country. The video is directed towards the youth, especially the youth of color and the future generation.

Many people were surprised to see that the numbers were pretty low. But most people were puzzled by the amount of Asian Americans that actually have a bacherlors degree or higher. Although the percentage for this minority group was about 50%, this number puts a defining limit on the stereotype of Asians proving that every minority group even whites are face with the challenge of graduating from college with a degree.

In order to display the statistics, I had people from the ethnic groups being represented by a certain number, created the number by using their bodies. I felt that it would be powerful to see, the people being affected by such small numbers.

Silent Action Packed Film

July 25th, 2008

The film that Karina Diaz and I made together was called Two Guys and One Sandwich. When I thought of what movie I should make for my silent film , I thought that I should do a funy chase scene. The plot of this movie is:

After spending time and dedication into making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the protaganist Joseph finds his beloved sandwich sandwich-napped( if that is a real word) by Josee (actually Jose).

I thought that the video was hilarious especially because it was fun to make and direct.

Watch and See….

Assignment #3

July 13th, 2008

I decided that I wanted to work with Karina Diaz on a silent film about recycling. Our main objective for this video is to display the importance and our obligation for a cleaner world by using an angelic person who is clean and leds the messy devil towards the right method of disposing our garbage.

I was also think of doing an another silent film. I would be about a guy who is on an ultimate chase to find the person who stole and devoured his favorite meal.

Dinner Uncovered- Plans for My Documentary

July 2nd, 2008

Hey! For my new documentary assignment, I was thinking that I should create a video that portrays the day in the life of Smash students and very sacred time in our life, dinner. I found that everyone had something to say about in the words of the interviewees “The most important meal of the day”. Dinner created such a wide range of topics like the ingredients in the food or who to sit with.

I’ll be recording the vital activity in action and interviewing students to rack in how much dinner means to them. The footage will be intense. (maybe not). I want to take a serious approach to this project and incorporate different styles of shots to make my documentary interesting. In the video, I hope to capture moments that are real and absorbs the true atmosphere of a group of 92 students enjoy their various methods of mastication and silliness during dinner.

Assignment#1 – The SMASH Crew and Technology

July 1st, 2008

This is a little interview that I put together for my Tech 2 class in SMASH. I warn thee, this video may be too cool for anyone to watch. Just Kidding!

I feel that this short video adequately displays the impact that videos on television and the web has on teenagers. What’s so significant about these students is that they are distant from television and the web because they are at a summer math and science programs. Their responses displays the importance of entertainment and the yearn for knowledge and creativity expression in teenagers, especially in this day and era.
This video features: Karina Diaz Joseph De La Riva Vivian Onuoha Juan Del Toro.
